International Women's Day

This week, 8th March,  the world celebrates International Women’s Day

And this year, given this rapidly changing world, two themes are being promoted around the globe.

Here in the UK, a big push around breaking the bias in terms of gender equality will be celebrated.

This day will focus on imagining an equal world, regardless of gender, free of discrimination, stereotypes and bias.    To do this we must all strive to create a world that is inclusive, diverse, impartial and celebrated.

Meanwhile, the UN, given the fast moving, often disposable world, we live in, the theme is ‘gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’. Important and worthwhile to ensure we protect our tomorrows by innovative thinking today.

Women play a hugely important role in the discovery, innovation, revolution and reforming of greener initiatives and do so by breaking the bias.  One of the most inspirational news stories I have read about over the last 12months is that of a group of young Latino teenage girls who have created solar powered tents for the homeless. It’s this vision and creativity that will make the world a better place.

Both themes highlight the importance of promoting, encouraging and inspiring children, young girls, young ladies and women that they can make a difference by pushing engineering, mechanics, materials and production towards greener and more sustainable outcomes, breaking the bias

We all have a part to play – we must all help drive this message forward, to our daughters and to our sons, to our sisters and to our brothers, to our wives and to our husbands. We are all great. We all have power. Working together makes us unstoppable.

Break that bias… that women are less, that women have boundaries.

If you’re on social media, promote the #hashtags #BreakTheBias and #IWD22; also, like myself, support the #womeninbusiness and #womeninfinance movements.
